Somewhere locked in a vault deep beneath The Salvation Army headquarters there are a series of promotional videos and material created for The Red Shield Appeal featuring World Champion Axeman David Foster.
As part of the production team, we were tasked with coming up with something that would appeal to the younger generations and give the Salvos a more modern edge. I was stoked because I got to apply some of my new found UX skills and through research, user interviews & storyboarding we were able to create a series of comedic videos where David was trying to find his place in the various ways you can volunteer for the Red Shield Appeal Doorknock.
David agreed to take part, we got approval from the powers that be and filming began. My role in the project also involved art direction on the day of the video shoots, creating print and digital material and working with the animator on the main and final screens for the videos.
Early testing said we were onto a winner but unfortunately someone older, higher up and more traditional complained and the only thing that ever saw the light of day ever so briefly before a harsh recall were the postcards. The only thing I had time to salvage was a handful of them, so until someone complains about them being here. Here they are in all their World Champion Axeman glory.
