Integrity – Portal Dashboard

Project Description

Portal Homepage

Brief
To evolve our portal homepage into a dashboard where advisers could find out information about their quotes and applications but where we could still communicate business updates and changes happening.

The Objective
With the business growing and Advisers having multiple quotes, applications and clients insured with us we were receiving multiple requests to evolve our portal homepage into a dashboard so Advisers could easily see an overview of the quotes and applications with us.

  • To update the design to bring the dashboard in line with our brand evolution
  • To make the dashboard more appealing

My role in this project

  • User research
  • User interviews
  • Data analysis & synthesising
  • UI designs
  • Creating prototypes
  • Usability test prototypes
  • Presenting the project
  • Work with the Development team on development and testing

UX Challenges
Understand the Business and Adviser needs. On this project I was working with another UX designer who had already conducted the initial research and provided the below solution to the business.

At the time as a side project, I had been working on a redesign of the portal and researching the best options for us moving forward to modernise and simplify our portal while also bringing it in line with our brand.

I was asked to join this project on the back of that work. Immediately it was clear to me if we were going to make a dashboard it could do so much more for the Advisers.

Having looked through the research the other UX designer had conducted, I widened the scope of what we could include and after listening to all the interviews and through Affinity mapping I was able to determine that:

The key insights were:

  • Advisers wanted a clear indication of where their applications were at.
  • They wanted to be able to clearly see:
    – What stage their applications were in
    – How many applications were in each stage
    – Easily see if there were tasks they needed to perform to further their application
    – How many applications they had in force
  • Still want us to communicate with them about whats happening
  • Part of the business wanted to sacrifice how we communicate to allow the new dashboard and the other part still wanted keep what we had.

Design – Round 1
With that information in hand I began work on new designs, keeping in mind the work I was doing on the portal redesign to ensure when that happened they would complement each other.
While the initial design below ticked all the boxes. It was important to ensure it ticked all the business and Advisers boxes.

Testing

While testing the above design I received further feedback from the business and Advisers

  • Advisers wanted to include more information to give them more visuals on inforce policies the 2 key inclusions were
    – Policy Anniversary, they wanted to know which policies were going to be renewing soon
    – Premium Overdue, they wanted a clearer idea of how many clients premiums were overdue
  • They missed all the panels we used to communicate with them
  • The business was thinking of including more information for Advisers in the future
  • The business needed clearer communication with Advisers

Design – Round 2
With that feedback in mind I needed to tweak the designs to provide more information to advisers, but also future proof the designs for future advancements. I also created a latest updates page which Advisers could click through to which would contain all the updates and communications from us and also give them the ability to let us know if they liked the update but also give us feedback either on the updates we had made or other things they might like to see.

Each of the panels would click through to existing pages in the portal allowing Advisers to easily navigate to the exact applications or clients they needed to view.

Outcome
Further testing showed both the Advisers and the business loved the new dashboard as well as the new Latest Updates page and having the ability to communicate with us and give us feedback more easily.
Advisers also loved how easy it was for them to navigate and find the information they were looking for as well as how it all linked to the existing portal and how easy it now was to get to the exact application or client they needed to view in just a couple of clicks.

Development & Testing
Once business Sign off was complete, I then provided the final designs to the development team and worked closely with them as they implemented the changes into the portal. Once done I was then involved with testing the changes and working with the team on tweaks and improvements before providing final sign off before the updates could go live.
